Down the Rabbit Hole Vol.1
Let’s dive in and explore where my curiosity has taken me this month!
you’re in the hood now, baby!
Down, down, down.
Would the fall never come to an end!
I wonder how many miles I've fallen by this time?Alice In Wonderland
Down the Rabbit Hole is a monthly deep dive into my latest hyperfixations. Whether it's tech, games, thought-provoking podcasts, or recipes and hairstyles, you’ll find it all here. This curated collection brings together everything that's captured my attention and kept me intrigued.
Sound good? Welp, let’s dive in and explore where my curiosity has taken me this month!
fields of mistria
I’m a sucker for a good sim-style game.
Fields of Mistria just released on Steam… and since it’s launch my Steam Deck has not known peace. This game has been in development so long that I honestly forgot about it - but now that it’s here - I can say with my whole chest and 13+ hour of gameplay that it was worth the wait.
The customization alone (extra points for the oversized hoops that come in silver and gold) had me sold.
I fear that I won’t be playing another sim game for quite some time… but knowing me - this could all change next month.
voice notes
Do y’all remember the days of 10-10-220? $0.99 for up to 20 minutes? Yeah… I almost ceased to exist because of that scam. The only reason that my behind wasn’t tapped was because my mother found the silver lining of humor - my intentions were good, I just wasn’t old enough to read the fine print.
You see, we millennials grew up with phones. We saw them transform—oversized and massive, they couldn’t fit in a pocket, let alone a mini backpack. And then, they became smaller, much smaller. From the Nokia brick to the thin Razr, the evolution of the cell phone still blows my mind.
When they introduced text messaging—baby, my life was changed! I always preferred written mediums, and within a week, I was the master of T9.
As these nostalgic moments flood through me, I wonder if that’s why traditional phone calls drain me. Maybe my age is showing, but I will take a good text conversation paired with voice notes any day. Let me play them back like a podcast and give my initial reaction without worrying about how we’re going to disconnect the call when the moment has passed. Connect with me when you have the space to be present and listen - don’t just fake it because you feel tied to this call.
peaches & cream iced matcha
When your husband buys a juicer, your fridge is overflowing with fresh produce.
Welp, the juicer broke three days in, and while we waited a week for a replacement, the fruits & veggies needed to be used (because I don’t know about y’all, but it seems everything starts to mold in the span of 3-5 business days now).
If you want to read a deeper letter about my relationship with matcha - hop on over to my main publication for an iced matcha reset.
Now, I never had a peach iced matcha, let alone make one - but in my mind I could make it work. And that I did.
First, let me tell you about that Ninja Blender - because it does what needs to be done! I froze whole halves of a peach overnight, and it tore through those iced rocks like paper.
The drink was soooo good y’all. It was giving sweet (not too sweet), creamy, and rich. My local coffee shop could and would never.
I’m going to give the hood barista version of the things that I used - this means that there’s no measurements, but if you know how to listen to your ancestors - they will help you along the way.
ceremonial matcha powder (I beg, deliver your tastebuds from that culinary bs!)
I use 24oz glasses because I like a lot of ice
Peaches (now I froze mine, and I think this helped a lot with texture)
sweetened condensed milk (this is that secret sauce right here)
oatmilk
a dash of cinnamon
honey
Okay, this is what you do:
Put your frozen peaches, a dollop of sweetened condensed milk, and half a glass of oat milk (or your milk of choice—I filled my drinking glass with the amount of milk that I would use if I were making my matcha without all the extra) inside the blender.
BLEND IT UNTIL IT CAN’T BLEND NO’ MO! If you have a puree option on your blender, use that too!
After all that, make your matcha according to the directions. I add honey as a sweetener to remove a little bit of that earthy taste. Add it to your glass, sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon, and stir.
There are actual factual recipes out there - this is just what I did… and that’s all I gotta say about that.
the last dragon (currently on tubi)
I love good comfort movies, and lately, Tubi has been allowing me to play my favorites for free.
Now, it could be ADHD or the soundtrack cultivated by Berry Gordy & Smokey Robinson - but The Last Dragon is one of those cult classics that just make me smile. The fashions, the music, the over-the-top acting - it’s all there - and I will be having it on repeat until Tubi decides to retire it (again).
the jane birkin trend
Jane Birkin (the inspiration for the overpriced Birkin bag) was known for adding a little extra to her handbags.
I’ve been adding charms to my bags before I knew who Ms.Birkin was - but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t inspired to take it to the extreme.
I have a clear backpack and a leopard tote, just waiting for a little razzle-dazzle.
